DUBAI, 20th October, 2026 (WAM) — The Emirates Drug Establishment (EDE) has announced a ban on the use of ciprofloxacin, an antibiotic belonging to the fluoroquinolone group, in the UAE’s veterinary sector from 1st November 2026, as part of efforts to combat antimicrobial resistance, promote the safe use of antibiotics and preserve the effectiveness of treatments used in human medicine. The decision follows the classification of this group of antibiotics as Critically Important Antimicrobials (CIAs) for human medicine because of their role in treating certain bacterial infections. TOKYO, 19th October, 2026 (WAM) — A Japanese spacecraft rocketed towards Mars on Tuesday on a quest to explore its mysterious moons and bring back samples. Five of the world’s space agencies joined forces for the five-year mission that will attempt to land a robotic prospector plus a rover on Phobos, the larger and closer of Mars’ two pint-sized moons. The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, which is leading the bold sampling effort, launched the spacecraft before dawn from the country’s main spaceport on Tanegashima Island.
